Aussie Farrier Dry Weather Hoof Dressing

The Aussie Farrier Dry Weather Hoof MoisturiserThe Aussie Farrier Dry Weather Hoof Dressing has been specially formulated for the extreme dryness conditions which abound in Australia.   The Hoof Dressing is predominantly a moisturizing formula which helps contribute moisture to the hoof capsule and balance the level of hydration.

To check whether the hooves on your horse are dehydrated, lift the foot and press your thumbs into the sole.  The sole should be pliable and you should be able to compress it with your thumbs.  The frog should have the consistency of rubber that you can squeeze between thumb and forefinger.

If the sole and frog are too hard, then the hoof is dehydrated.  The entire hoof capsule should be cleaned before applying the dressing.  The sole and frog should be cleaned with a hoof pick and all debris, dirt, soil etc should be cleaned away.

It is best to have the horse standing on a dry, hard, clean surface until the cream has soaked in.  The hoof dressing should be applied to the walls, sole and frog liberally with a clean semi-soft brush.  Initially the cream should be applied twice daily.

After a few days you will notice that the sole and frog become more pliable.  You can then reduce the treatment regime to once daily or less frequently depending on the condition of the hoof capsule.    If the weather changes and there is dampness around, then reduce or stop the treatment but keep checking the hooves on a regular basis.

This product is not intended to have a cosmetic effect in terms of improving the visual appearance of the hoof for presentation purposes.  The cream soaks in to the hoof and does its work, it doesn’t sit on the surface trying to look good.  It is important to apply the cream over the entire hoof capsule including the sole and frog.
